With the number of skate brands at an all-time high (and very few of them doing anything that original or interesting) it can be pretty hard to get excited when you hear about another new brand starting out. On very rare occasions however, a brand will come about that manages to break through the walls of cynicism and reignite that dwinding flame of hype within you. Short Straw Skateboards is one of those brands.

WHAT IS SHORT STRAW?

Founded in Leeds by a trifecta of Welcome Skate Shop-affiliated legends: Fraser Doughty, Izzy Almond and Josh Hallett, Short Straw is an exciting new UK skate brand who are trying to do things different. Starting out as a way to hook up some of their mates who were in need of a board sponsor, Short Straw have set themselves apart by championing inclusivity and offering a range of styles to suit a variety of genders, which is a much-needed change in the skateboard industry.

Not only that, the brand are dedicated to offering a range of high-quality products while keeping things affordable, with decks for only £55 alongside a range of premium, heavyweight clothing. Given their Leeds-based origins, the Short Straw Skateboards team features a diverse selection of Northern legends, including Albie Edmonds, Izzy Almond, Connie Gascoigne and Paul Watson, who have all been putting serious work in over the last few years. With so many legends of the UK scene behind the brand, we can't wait to see the Short Straw team continue to expand and you just know that any video they come out with is gonna pack a serious whallop!

SHORT STRAW SKATEBOARD DECKS

Kicking off their Season 1 collection with some seriously high-grade wood, Short Straw have come through with a range of tasteful new decks while placing emphasis on affordability without sacrificing quality. The new Short Straw skateboard decks are all printed and pressed in Germany for that legendary German engineering, guaranteeing premium quality without a premium price tag. With the price of decks absolutely skyrocketing in recent years, it's nice to see a brand that's trying to keep things affordable without cutting any corners so Short Straw definitely gets our seal of approval.

For their Season 1 drop, Short Straw have kept things simple with their stylish 'Fadeaway Logo' decks, available in a variety of woodstains with the 'Fadeaway Logo' artwork printed down the left side for a clean aesthetic. Featuring a mellow concave and 14.25" wheelbase, we've got the Short Straw 'Fadeaway Logo' Decks in a range of sizes, including 8.125", 8.25", 8.375" and 8.5", so grab your favourite size now while stocks last!

SHORT STRAW CLOTHING

Alongside their decks, Short Straw have also come through with a range of premium clothing including a selection of stylish Caps and heavyweight T-shirts in a variety of fits. Ranging from their tasteful, embroidered 'Logo EMB' T-shirt to the 'Ludd' and 'Swing' T-shirts with designs featuring artwork from 19th Century protest movements, Short Straw have come out swingin' with their first batch of tees.

Backing up their style with substance, Short Straw have utilised premium heavyweight cotton in their T-shirts to compliment the refined aesthetics with an equally premium feel. Likewise, in the headwear department Short Straw have kept things classic with an unstructured 6 panel construction for their suave, corduroy 'Harvey' Cap and equally stylish two-tone 'Logo' Cap in Navy and Taupe.

But most importantly, Short Straw have set themselves apart from the competition with their focus on inclusivity, coming through with two different styles of T-shirt to suit all shapes, sizes and genders. Alongside the standard "Men's" T-shirts, Short Straw have come through with a shorter, boxy unisex fit - dubbed the ENBY fit meaning non-binary - to help cater for a wider variety of body types and genders, or just people who prefer a boxy T-shirt.
