Adding to their already legendary library of photobooks exploring street culture in all its various forms, Living Proof Publishing House are back and better than ever with 'Banlieue: Suburbs of Paris'. This time, they've ventured across the pond, teaming up with French photographer, Yanis Dadoum, to shine a light on the notorious French suburbs known as the banlieues. Have a read below to find out more about what's inside the new 'Banlieue' photo book!

While the word 'banlieue' basically just refers to a suburb of any French city, the term has become synonymous with densely-populated, high-rise housing projects, with inhabitants often coming from diverse ethnic backgrounds. As is sadly all too common, the banlieues have often been demonised in French media and political discourse, being portrayed as hotbeds for organised crime and hooliganism with some neighbourhoods even being branded as 'no-go zones'.

However, despite these often damning portrayals, the banlieues have long been at the heart of French identity and culture, having produced a wealth of artists and athletes from hip-hop and R&B pioneers to world-class footballers like Thierry Henry and Kylian Mbappe. They've also provided the backdrop for various films, including the absolute masterpiece that is Mathieu Kassovitz' 'La Haine' (which veterans among you may remember Cliché paying homage to with Max Geronzi's first run of pro boards).

In the same way that 'La Haine' captures the vibrant, and at times frantic, culture and community of the banlieues, the new 'Banlieue: Suburbs of Paris' book from Living Proof offers up a similarly raw and intensely personal insight into what life is like in Paris' infamous suburbs. Packed with images from photographer and banlieusard Yanis Dadoum, who himself was born and still lives in Paris' Epinay-Sur-Seine suburb, the book offers up an inside look at the people and places which make up these often misunderstood communities.

Coming from the banlieues himself, Yanis Dadoum is able to offer up an authentic, honest and intimate perspective on the streets he calls home and the lived experiences of those who share them with him. With photos ranging from portraits of the locals and snapshots of corner shops, barbershops and the distinctive tower blocks to boxing champions and quad-bike wheelies, 'Banlieue: Suburbs of Paris' captures the diversity of the banlieues in all its glory and is yet another must-have addition to Living Proof's extensive catalogue of top-tier photobooks.

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to browse Living Proof Magazine and buy now from CSC. Or, find out more about the latest skate product on the CSC Blog. Safe.
