Everyone knows that knowledge is power and, when it comes to skateboarding, you're not gonna find anything more powerful than an issue of Closer skate mag. Loaded up with interviews with legends both young and old, Closer has got a little something for everyone whether you're looking to catch up on current affairs or relive the olden days.
The Closer issue 2 magazine cover features a heavily stylised image of Kevin 'Spanky' Long doing a switch slappy crook on a curb, shot by Matt Price, which basically sums up the differences between Thrasher and Closer: Closer isn't just about 'hellrides' and the gnarliest stunts, it's about the love of skateboarding in all its forms, even if its just slappying a curb. Plus, if you're a Spanky fan then the issue also includes a really insightful and entertaining interview with him, in which he discusses his recent parts, his prolific Etch-A-Sketch skills and his new role as Baker's art director.
Alongside the Spanky interview, the latest issue of Closer skateboarding magazine is of course packed with other interesting features and interviews for the budding skate nerd to enjoy. Their 'First Things First' feature makes a return in this issue with Lance Mountain and Darren Harper spilling the beans on some of their firsts; James Hardy discusses the long-lasting impact of his repeated head injuries from skating including some serious horror stories; and we get an exclusive Chromeball Interview with the one and only Chico Brenes. Couple this with some shorter features, like a look at a legendary Natas Kaupas deck or a loveletter to the bygone tradition of writing actual IRL letters to pro skaters, and you've got a mag that's as educational as it is entertaining.
But don't worry if you can't be arsed reading a load of interviews, Closer skateboard magazine is packed with iconic photos of all-time greats and modern legends side by side - like the incredible combo of 1996 Bobby Puleo alongside a modern day Lucas Puig skating the Venice Beach curbs. It's pretty rare you get to see pictures from recent videos alongside never-before-seen shots of skateboarding's biggest heroes from back in the day, and to make it even better they've also got some modern pictures of these old school legends still killing it today, like Daewon Song and Shiloh Greathouse.
That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to buy the latest issue of Closer skateboard magazine from CSC. Or, find out more about the latest skate product on the CSC Blog. Safe.
