From Western Australia to the world, Butter Goods have come a long way from their remote origins to become one of the most popular skate brands in the game. Starting out as a relatively humble project started by two mates over 15 years ago, the brand has gone on to win over the hearts of skaters (and non-skaters) across the globe, releasing drop after drop of the finest clothing and collaborating with some of the most legendary brands of all-time. But what is it that makes the brand so loveable? Find out below as we cover everything you need to know about Butter Goods!
History of Butter Goods
Butter Goods was Founded all the way back in 2008 by Perth-based skaters and childhood friends, Garth Mariano (no relation to Guy) and Matt Evans, after their lack of inspiration in their day jobs led to them quitting to study graphic design. Growing up with a wealth of Australian skate brands to look up to which had since disappeared, Garth and Matt decided to take matters into their own hands and carry the torch for the Aussie skate scene, eventually putting their graphic design knowledge to good use and printing their first batch of tees.

Like many of us, the pair were heavily influenced by the skate videos they watched growing up, quickly resulting in a shared love of hip hop, as well as other genres of music that they heard in samples. This love of music has since gone on to be a core aspect of the brand with many of their designs drawing inspiration from jazz, hip hop and music in general, which has only helped broaden their appeal outside of skateboarding over the years. Not everyone is into skating but you have to be pretty weird to not appreciate music.

Butter Goods have come a long way from their first batch of tees, carefully refining their signature style over the years with their unmistakable art direction and ever-broadening range of unique, premium-quality cut-and-sew garments. They've now expanded well beyond the relatively isolated scene of Western Australia, growing to become one of the most popular and successful brands in skateboarding and streetwear across the entire globe. We've been big fans of Butter since their earliest days and we couldn't be more hyped to see them getting the appreciation they deserve!

Butter Goods Skate Team
Given their Aussie roots, naturally the early Butter Goods skate team featured a heavy presence of legends from Down Under, including the likes of Casey Foley, Phil Marshall, Morgan Campbell and Alex Campbell, alongside a small Stateside contingent consisting of Ben Gore, Philly Santosuosso and Alex Schmidt. However, following Butter's global expansion the team has also followed suit with Davide Holzknecht, Dougie George and Adilson Pedro holding it down for Europe. Today, the Butter Goods skate team features Ben Gore, Philly Santosuosso, Davide Holzknecht, Adilson Pedro, Alex Schmidt, Philly Santosuosso, Dougie George, Shaun Paul, Aleka Lang, Casey Foley, Phil Marhsall and Morgan Campbell.

Butter Goods Skate Videos
Although Butter Goods have sadly never released a proper full-length (although does 15 minutes count as a full-length these days?) they've more than made up for it with countless shorter-form videos over the years. Matching the brand's international team and fanbase, their videos are of an equally cosmopolitan nature with many of them featuring a mixture of footage from Australia and the US as well as a variety of other locations. They even came over to the UK back in 2016 for their bangin' (and appropriately-titled) 'Spoons' edit and more recently treated us to just under seven minutes of premium Dougie George smoothness filmed in the UK and Europe.
Given the brand's close affinity with all things musical, of course their impeccable music taste shines through in their videos with their soundtracks always featuring an eclectic mix of jazz and hip hop, including Gang Starr, Jeru The Damaja, Barry White, Vince Staples, Pete La Roca, Charles Mingus and countless others. This is especially true for some of their collab videos, like the 'Butter Goods x Charles Mingus' video and the more recent 'Butter Goods x Blue Note' video, which revolve heavily around the music, putting their love of jazz front and centre.
Butter Goods Clothing
Of course, where Butter Goods' creative genius really shines through is in their ever-growing range of top quality clothing. Butter Goods have expanded well beyond their earliest batches of tees, branching out to produce a wide range of T-shirts, hoods, crews, pants, shorts, caps, beanies and more. With designs paying tribute to their love of music and nature alongside cute cartoon characters and more traditional logos, Butter Goods have carved out a unique aesthetic for their clothing that's unmistakably their own and impossible not to love.

In recent years they've also taken things to a whole new level with a load of bangin' cut-and-sew garments to really flaunt their creative prowess. Ranging from unique applique hoods, panelled tees, football jerseys, knitted jumpers and a whole load of one-of-a-kind jackets, Butter Goods somehow manage to deliver both quality and quantity with a straight-up intimidating selection of designs every drop. We're not too sure how they manage to churn out four loads of these bangers (and more) every year but we're glad that it's them doing it and not us.

Saying that though, one of the ways they help spread the load is by letting the team pour their own creative juices into the mix with their own Butter Goods signature collections. We've already established that the Butter team is extremely dope but clearly their talents aren't limited to four wheels with Ben Gore, Adilson Pedro, Dougie George and most recently Davide Holzknecht all proving their worth as clothing designers. We've had tasteful trou, trucker caps and a plaid jacket from Dougie; a stylish jacket and cords from Ben; a triple-denim masterpiece from Adilson; and a bangin' knitted jumper and workwear-inspired gear from Davide - all of which bear that signature Butter quality alongside each skater's own unique twist.

On top of these limited collections, Butter Goods have also honoured some of their team member with permanent additions to their core range, with the most notable example being their iconic Santosuosso Jeans. Designed to the exact specifications of Butter team rider, Philly Santosuosso, the Butter Goods Santosuosso Jeans have become a staple of their range and some of the most popular trousers on the market - even managing to give the reigning kings, Polar Big Boy Jeans, a run for their money - thanks to their ultra-baggy fit which tapers towards the leg opening for the perfect amount of sag without them swallowing your shoes.

Alongside their own range of clothing, Butter Goods have also been consistently putting out some of the finest collabs in the game. Over the years, they've teamed up with other skate brands, like the Butter Goods x Huf and Butter Goods x DC collections; music icons, like Butter Goods x Miles Davis and Butter Goods x Blue Note; legendary brands, like Butter Goods x Kangol and Butter Goods x Umbro; and even channeling that childhood nostalgia with Butter Goods x The Smurfs, Butter Goods x Fantasia and Butter Goods x Peanuts. We see a lot of dodgy collabs in skateboarding these days but Butter Goods never miss.

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to browse the full range of Butter Goods clothing and buy now from CSC. Or, find out more about your favourite skate brands on the CSC Blog. Safe.
