'Sci-Fi' and 'Fantasy' might not be words you usually associate with being cool, but that's all about to change thanks to Jerry Hsu.

Another new brand gracing our shelves for the Fall season; we're super excited to bring you the new and exclusive brand from one of our all-time favourite skaters. Known for their clean aesthetics and quirky imagery, Sci-Fi Fantasy is without a doubt one of the quintessential brands of the modern era thanks to their cryptic Instagram presence, legendary team and general coolness. Take notes everyone, this is how you do it.

What is Sci-Fi Fantasy?

Sci-Fi Fantasy was founded by legendary skateboarder/nerd, Jerry Hsu. The brand first started out in 2017 as a cryptic Instagram account which basically just posted weird images (from terrible 'Avatar' tattoos to brutal motorbike crashes) with occasional teasers of caps. Naturally, the account ended up gathering quite a following with everyone trying to figure out what it was all about.

Fast forward a little bit and Sci-Fi Fantasy caps were slowly trickled out into the wild in extremely limited numbers, which only helped add to the hype around the brand. To add further fuel to the fire, inexplicably famous person, Kim Kardashian, was seen wearing a Sci-Fi Fantasy cap in an Instagram post - alongside legendary fashion designer, Donatella Versace. While this likely came about thanks to Kim's skate-adjacent stylist and photographer, Sandy Kim, it's definitely some pretty good publicity to say the least.

Sci-Fi Fantasy now produce a wide range of clothing and hardware - including their iconic caps, tees, hoods and skateboard decks - with the main man, Jerry Hsu, maintaining full control over their creative output. As a result, Sci-Fi Fantasy are known for clean aesthetics and their retro take on futuristic imagery - inspired by the electronics catalogues he grew up around - as well as a nice dash of the esoteric.

It's not just the product which makes Sci-Fi Fantasy so good, Jerry has also done an amazing job picking the team. Alongside Jerry, the Sci-Fi Fantasy team features a load of contemporary legends, including their first official pro, Ryan Lay, alongside up-and-comers, Arin Lester and Akwasí Owusu, who are both ones to keep your eye on.

So far, Ryan Lay's the only person who's put out a part for Sci-Fi Fantasy, coming through with a short-but-sweet clip to celebrate joining the team, but hopefully we'll be treated to a proper full-length from the squad soon. For the mean time I guess we'll have to make do with the occasional bit of footage trickled out via their Instagram.
