Jason Arnold - 'Artisan United: Skateboard Illustration and Fine Art' Book
If you're a fan of skateboard art, this book's the one for you. Artisan United skateboard book explores the interconnected worlds of skateboard illustration and fine art through interviews with some of the most respected skateboard artists of all time, including Sean Cliver, Mark Mckee, and our mate Phil Morgan. The interviews cover each artists' processes and inspirations, as well as more lighthearted topics like what they do with their spare time and whether they prefer The Smiths or Morrissey. Of course the book's also got plenty of pictures as well, including rough sketches, iconic graphics, and pictures of the artists at work so don't worry if you're not a big reader.
Sean Cliver - 'Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art' Book
Another one for the art lovers, this whopping encyclopaedia of skateboard graphics was put together by one of the most legendary skateboard artists of all time: Sean Cliver. The 'Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art' skateboard book compiles thousands of legendary skateboard graphics from the late 70s/early 80s, all the way up to the early 2000s for a comprehensive history of skateboard art. The book also features recollections and stories from legendary skaters and artists including Ed Templeton, Jim Thiebaud, Mark Mckee, Steve Rocco, Lance Mountain, Tony Hawk, and more for even more interesting insight into the history of skateboard graphics.
Sean Cliver - 'Disposable Skateboard Bible' Book
Another book from the one and only Sean Cliver, 'The Disposable Skateboard Bible' skateboard book is the follow up to his 'Disposable: A History of Skateboard Art' aimed at filling any gaps left in the first book making this the most comprehensive encyclopaedia of skateboard graphics to ever exist. With almost 400 pages, this absolute monster is the ultimate guide to skateboard art that's absolutely essential for anyone interested in the history of skateboard graphics. Of course Cliver also chats to some of skateboarding's biggest names - including Tony Hawk, Stacy Peralta, Mike Vallely, Mark Gonzales, and more - for additional insight into the story behind the boards.
Lucas Beaufort - 'Heart' Book
French skateboarder and artist, Lucas Beaufort - best known for his bold and colourful artwork which has appeared on skateboard decks for the likes of Almost, Magenta, Sk8Mafia, and more - has temporarily turned his attention away from the canvas and put together this incredible book exploring the history and significance of skateshops. The name, 'Heart', refers to his belief that skate shops are at the heart of the skateboard scene. In 'Heart' Lucas chats to 90 of the world's finest skate shops - including the good homies at Welcome, Fifty Fifty, Lost Art, and more - to uncover the hidden workings of the humble skate shop and the characters behind them. We might be slightly biased but Lucas Beaufort's 'Heart' skateboard book is a must read.
J. Grant Brittain - 'PUSH: 80s Skateboarding Photography' Book
In contrast to all the books on skateboard art, J. Grant Brittain's 'PUSH' skateboard book takes a dive into the history of skateboard photography with an extensive library of Brittain's most iconic shots from the 80s. 'PUSH' features pictures of some of skateboarding's most legendary names including Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi, Neil Blender, Mark Gonzales, and more, as well as a foreword by the Birdman himself and a pull-out timeline from Gary Scott Davis for some additional context.
