Joining the DC x Skate Cafe shoes on our shelves, the new models of the DC Metric have just landed in store with a crispy black colourway of the DC Metric S and the new signature colourway for East Coast legend, John Shanahan. Both shoes are absolutely packed with modern tech to keep your feet feeling pampered without the mega-chunky construction of the DC x CAFE shoes, just in case you're not quite ready for the puffy shoe revival yet.
DC Metric S
The DC Metric S is a straight-up modern classic, drawing on DC's decades worth of experience and knowledge to create a stylish, modern shoe that's specifically tailored to be '1,000x More Skateable'. While this sleek black and grey colourway of the DC Metric S may not look that exciting at first glance, the shoe is packed with skate-focussed tech meaning there's much more to it than meets the eye.
The upper of the DC Metric S is constructed using DC's SuperSuede, designed to last 50% longer than traditional suede, alongside their High-Abrasion Mesh to provide durable breathability in key areas. The upper is also reinforced using DC's SuperStitch, a specially designed tougher thread that resists wear and stands up to griptape, meaning these bad boys are pretty much bomb-proof.
Of course, it's not just the upper that's jam-packed with premium science stuff, DC have also blessed the Metric S with a high-tech sole to provide maximum comfort and cushioning. The midsole features Impact Foam for lightweight, long-lasting cushioning and perfect boardfeel, alongside the Impact ALG insole for further impact protection.
As if that's not enough, the shoe also incorporates sustainability throughout with the Impact ALG insole being made sustainably using algae blooms and the Re/Grip sole being constructed from 20% recycled rubber, while still boasting the same durability as traditional rubber. Just because you're fuckin' up the streets doesn't mean you have to fuck up the planet.
DC Metric Shanahan
Alongside the DC Metric S, we've also got John Shanahan's new signature model: the DC Metric Shanahan. In stark contrast to the sleek, black Metric S, the DC Metric Shanahan comes in a bold white, grey and blue colourway to help you stand out from the crowd. This isn't just a custom colourway though, Shanahan has made some major tweaks to the shoe's construction for extra support and, of course, a more 90s-inspired aesthetic.
The DC Metric Shanahan as a whole is far bulkier than the standard DC Metric S with the chunky Legacy OG outsole for additional cushioning and mandatory 90s swag as well as more padding around the collar for a snug fit. The padded tongue (complete with an injected TPU pull loop) further adds to the chunky aesthetic - while the mesh construction ensure breathability - and even the laces are thicker, drawing on DC's 90s heritage while offering greater longevity.
Of course, this added chunkiness means that the DC Metric Shanahan offer superior support and impact protection, making them perfect for stomping treflips over trash cans. The sole combines an EVA strobel board and footbed for ultimate comfort and cushioning, as well as the use of DC's Impact-G technology for further protection. Plus, with an added polyurethane arch in the midsole, the DC Metric Shanahan is one of the most supportive shoes on the market.
Much like the DC Metric S, the DC Metric Shanahan features a highly durable and breathable upper thanks to the use of High-Abrasion Mesh alongside a mixture of suede and leather in high-wear areas, all stitched together using Super-Stitch thread to protect the shoe's seams. What's more, the added runner toe not only adds to the timeless 90s aesthetic, it also provides extra durability and flick. You ain't gonna be wearing through the bad boys any time soon.
