Whether you're setting up your first complete or you're a seasoned veteran who still can't wrap their head around all the different sizes, buying a new set of trucks can be pretty confusing. This is mostly because different brands use different measurements to describe their truck sizes with some brands even using different sizes for different styles of truck - just to make things easy for us.

But don't worry if you're a bit lost (it is pretty confusing) because we've got you covered with the ultimate guide to skateboard truck sizes so you can get the right size trucks for your skateboard.

How to Choose Skateboard Trucks

Skateboard trucks are the metal parts beneath your skateboard deck that connect the wheels to the deck and allow you to turn, pop tricks and, most importantly, do mad sick grinds. Seeing as they play such a pivotal role (Get it? Because they pivot?) in your skateboard's movement, it's important to get the sizing right so, first things first, you're going to need to know what size deck you have, otherwise it'd be quite hard to buy the right size trucks.

This is where it gets interesting though: while skateboard deck widths are measured in inches as standard, skateboard trucks are far more varied with different brands using a variety of different measurements with some measuring the width of the axle and others measuring the width of the hangar, with almost all brands expressing these measurements in a different way. Very user-friendly, I know...

As a general rule, your trucks should sit in line with, or within a quarter of an inch of, the edges of your deck. You don't want to be able to see the wheels sticking out the sides like some weird platypus, as your foot might get caught on them when you push, and you don't want them to be completely hidden under your deck which would make the board unstable.

There is a bit of leeway though and most trucks will fit a range of sizes around half an inch; for example, Independent 149s best fit 8.5" decks however they can also fit decks from 8.375" to 8.6".

Independent Trucks Size Guide

Don’t let broken ass sizing systems and comments from armchair ass skaters saying “you need this size, or that size”

Deck size doesn’t matter ? Who said anything about decks? I don’t got a small deck, you got a small deck
