Top 5 Parts with Funeral French on the CSC Blog

Following on from our recent CSC x Dungeon collab, of course we had to rope in French for a cheeky Top 5! Coming through with some all-time classics and niche old-school picks, French places heavy emphasis on style and having fun, laying down some important life lessons that many of us could learn from in the current day-and-age. We've loved working with French on this collab but we've got to give him an extra special shoutout for having the fastest turn-around on a Top 5 we've ever seen; the man's a true professional. Cheers French!

Corey Chrysler & Nick Foster - 'Debunker' (1991)

This was the first video I ever saw or owned, I think I watched it multiple times every day for at least 5 years. When the video got to this section I was just so sold on it, it was everything I wanted skateboarding to be and the music was so rad. Also I saw that Chrysler was wearing a Slayer shirt and I was just like "Fuck! I also like Slayer, this is sick!".

Shawn Martin - 'Crummy Promo' (1991)

This is just how skating was when I was growing up, crusty spots and car parks. It’s fun, accessible and not serious in anyway. His style is so rad.

Jeff Hartsel - 'Rubbish Heap' (1989)

When I was growing up in the 90’s my mate Chas, who is 7 years older than me, had the most insane skate VHS collection and he used to lend me old videos. At the time when all the guys were talking about ‘Mouse’ or the newest World Video - I was just obsessed with older videos, I think it was style over tricks I was into, and it looks so fun.

Erik Ellington - 'Thrill Of It All' (1997)

This whole video is sick, Zero had skulls, it was so different at the time, gnarly, had metal, had mosher drops and when I heard Danzig on a skate video - I was totally sold. I met Erik once and he was so nice, such a gent, really stoked me out.

Dead Dave - 'Earth Goblin' (2020)

This section, and Dave, is everything I love about skateboarding, it’s creative, it's individual, it's stylish, it can only really be understood and appreciated when you see this giant of a human skate in real life. He has to be seen to be believed. I just think, for me and how I got into skating, it’s not about doing whatever everyone else is doing, it’s about approaching it as and how you see it. You can’t score it, it can’t be quantified or pigeon-holed or controlled, there’s no rules and the gatekeepers that told you the rules about it probably don’t skate any more anyway. Skating is whatever you mould it to be and Dave is a great example of that. It sounds so cliche, but skating is exactly like art, but way more fun and it's sick to do it with ya mates. Me and Laup used to buy a box of broken bisuits and just skate that all afternoon and when you did something over the box you could have a biscuit.

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to browse the full range of CSC and Dungeon Gateway clothing. Or, check out more Top 5s on the CSC Blog. Safe.
