The Rundown - CSC Go Skate Day 2025

Get a taste of the action from our Go Skate Day 2025 event as we headed back to the Centre of the Universe, Bute Square, to make the most of everyone's favourite spot while we still can.

Witness the chaos through the lens of Harry Deane in the edit below!

Not gonna lie, it's always a bit of a panic when June comes around and we realise we only have a couple of weeks to come up with a plan for Go Skate Day. We're not exactly spoilt for choice when it comes to spots in Cardiff - even less so for spots that can accommodate a large number of people - and we've already rinsed most of the existing options. So, naturally, we of course ended up settling on Ol' Faithful, Bute Square, once again, but at least this time we had the excuse that this might be one of the last Go Skate Day events we get the chance to put on here, at least in its current form - and hey, it's a classic for a reason.

While the cynics may think that we've already rinsed every last drop of creativity out of those haggard red bricks, we still managed to squeeze out a few new lines with just a kicker and a couple of rails - transforming the humble 2-stair into a Euro gap and down-rail to rival the newly-built Llanrumney park, and even devising a cunning strategy to increase board sales by setting up a kicker gap over Bute's iconic spicehead splash pool. Necessity is the mother of invention, after all. Unsurprisingly, the youth went feral for the Euro gap and rail as JoJo, Elliot, Lona, Corey and Meg laid down a steady stream of hammers but sadly our devious marketing trick failed as it was only Gabe's board that took a swim, and he skates for us anyway.

Despite his board ending up in the drink faster than an over-enthusiastic 'Takeshi's Castle' contestant sprinting through the Honeycomb Maze, Gabe still managed to take home top honours, alongside fellow Shop Dragon, Jack Branch, who both established their dominance over Bute's fetid water feature by taking the gap to unfathomable lengths. Continuing the upwards trend of gnarliness, we ended the day with a bang at one of Bute's most menacing features: the infamous ledge gap. Many laid down offerings to the Blood God but vengeance was swift and decisive as everyone faced down the slick black tiles and gave the gap a thorough pasting before Gabe, Jack and Jess dealt the killing blow with a trio of hammers.

As always, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone for coming down, it's always a treat seeing Bute so busy and if this does end up being our last GSD event here then I think we gave it a good send-off! Likewise, we've got to give a special shoutout to all our lovely sponsors - Spit Sawdust, Carve Wicked, Keen Dist, Last Resort, Polar, Wayward, Rock Solid and Shiner - for supplying the prizes as well as the MVP of the day, Chef Oscar, for absolutely killin' it on the coals all day to keep everyone fed. Safe to say we had an absolute belter of a day celebrating our Useless Wooden Toys and we hope you did too. Make sure to check the edit at the top of the page, courtesy of the one-and-only Harry Deane, to relive the action!

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to buy the latest clothing and skateboard decks from CSC. Or, find out more about the latest Cardiff skateboard events on the CSC Blog. Safe.
