Bringing back one of their most iconic series, Girl Skateboards have roped in their co-founder, Spike Jonze, for the return of the Shot By Spike Decks featuring a series of some of his most legendary photos. This time around, the Shot By Spike series pays tribute to some of the greatest female musicians of all-time, including Bjork and a selection of top-tier Kims, with a series of photos shot by Spike himself. Who is Spike Jonze?

Although Spike Jonze is a man who should need no introduction, being arguably one of the most successful creatives to ever come out of skateboarding, for those who don't know who he is: he's kind of a big deal. Despite starting out shooting photos for a BMX magazine, Spike soon found himself at the forefront of the newly emerging street skating scene, shooting photos of the early Blind and World Industries teams for magazines like Transworld and Big Brother before moving on to making videos. Spike then went on to co-found Girl Skateboards alongside Mike Carroll, Rick Howard and Megan Baltimore where he continued to put out incredible videos for the brand while also expanding his creativity into other areas.

Spike's Midas Touch can be felt across a variety of mediums, having helped to create countless legendary skate videos, including the groundbreaking 'Video Days' for Blind; music videos for the likes of Sonic Youth, Fat Boy Slim, The Pharcyde, Weezer and many more; MTV's cult reality TV and film series, 'Jackass'; as well as writing and directing various films including 'Where The Wild Things Are', 'Her' and 'Being John Malkovich'. It's pretty hard to sum up Spike's ludicrous range of achievements in just a few sentences so we highly recommend watching his 'Epicly Later'd' to fully grasp just how much of a legend the man is.

Girl Shot By Spike Decks

Coming through with a range of incredible photo graphics, the Shot By Spike Volume 2 series features never-before-seen photos of four certified musical legends who all share a personal connection with Spike Jonze. Each deck comes in a selection of shapes and sizes which you can find out more about in Crailtap's Shape Guide (in case you do actually plan on skating the decks) with complementary top and bottom graphics and a custom sleeve with some extra lore about the collection.

First up, we've got the Girl 'Shot By Spike Kim Gordon' Deck which features a black-and-white picture of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon as she plays bass for the band. Spike Jonze and Sonic Youth have had a strong connection since he filmed the music video for their song, '100%', so it comes as no surprise seeing Kim Gordon in this series and this deck's a must-have for any fans of the band. We've got the Shot By Spike Kim Gordon Deck in an 8.25" width with Girl's G089 shape, or an 8.5" width with the G053 shape.

Alongside Kim Gordon, we've also got fellow Kim, Kim Deal, from legendary alt-rock bands, The Pixies and The Breeders, with a colour photo of her playing the acoustic guitar. Once again, the Spike Jonze connection comes from Spike directing the music video for The Breeders' song, 'Cannonball', with the help of Kim Gordon. The Girl 'Shot By Spike Kim Deal' Deck comes in two different options: an 8" width with Girl's G045 shape or an 8.5" width with the Girl G033 shape.

Likewise, the collection also includes the Girl 'Shot By Spike Bjork' Deck which features Icelandic singer and songwriter, Bjork, swaddled in a towel from the first time she met with Spike in 1995. The pair first met in the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles to discuss plans for music videos for her album, 'Post', where Spike took a load of pictures of Bjork doing Bjork-y things. Like the Kim decks, the Shot By Spike Bjork Deck is available in two different shapes and sizes: 8" with the G008 shape and 8.375" with the G016 shape.

Last but not least, the series also includes the Girl 'Shot By Spike Karen O' Deck featuring the lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karen O. The deck features an image from the music video for Karen O's solo track, 'Woman', which was directed by Spike Jonze, but the pair have also worked together to produce music for his iconic sci-fi rom-com, 'Her', as well as briefly dating for a period. Once again, the Shot By Spike Karen O deck comes in two different variants: 8.25" in the G052 shape or 8.5" in the G053 shape.
