When you've got as much history as Vans, you can't really blame them for digging around in the archives for inspiration every so often, and that's exactly what they've done for their latest offering: the Vans Skate Half Cab Wafflecup. Putting a fresh twist on one of their most beloved models of all time, the Half Cab Wafflecup combines the iconic silhouette of the Half Cab with the latest Wafflecup technology for a beefed-up reimagining of the shoe that's built to handle whatever you can throw at it. We're big fans of the Half Cab and we're even bigger fans of the new Wafflecup version: have a read below to find out why!

Not only is the Half Cab one of Vans' best loved models, it's also got some of the best lore as it first came about from skaters cutting the original Steve Caballero High pro model into mid-tops before Vans decided to make it official back in 1992. Since then, the Half Cab has remained a mainstay in their lineup for over 30 years now and has been released in a load of different variations, including the GoreTex MTE and the slimmed-down Decon. Now, Vans have taken things to a whole new level with the Half Cab Wafflecup which features a brand new cupsole construction, alongside all the latest Vans tech and even some tasteful old-school throwbacks.

First things first, we've of course got to talk about the new Wafflecup construction, which is Vans' unique take on your typical cupsole, offering up the comfort and support you'd expect from a cupsole while still maintaining the boardfeel and flexibility of a vulcanised shoe. To achieve this, the Wafflecup sole features extra cushioning and support around the heel and midfoot for maximum impact protection while thinning out towards the forefoot for more flexibility and better boardfeel. This means you can comfortably go from kickflipping a 12-stair one minute to switch flip back tailing a ledge the next. Or it just means you can keep skating for longer without your feet aching while also actually being able to feel your board.

But obviously they haven't just stopped there and the Vans Skate Half Cab Wafflecup features a load of other features which work in tandem with the Wafflecup sole to further bring you the best of both worlds. The sole itself utilises Vans' signature SickStick rubber for long-lasting grip and durability while also featuring a unique tread pattern which further supports the shoe's more flexible forefoot and sturdier heel. What's more, Vans have also added in a moulded heel counter to help keep your foot locked in for further stability, as well as their fan favourite PopCush removable insole for long-lasting comfort and impact protection.

Despite the new-and-improved outsole, the Vans Skate Half Cab Wafflecup is still the same shoe you know and love when it comes to the upper, albeit with some slight improvements here and there. Obviously, the shoe still features its signature mid-top construction, offering better ankle protection compared to a low-top while still offering full range of motion, as well as its distinctive multi-panelled upper which offers the perfect blend of flick, durability and breathability. However things aren't quite so simple behind the scenes as the shoe also boasts a load of hidden tech like a Duracap underlay for an extra layer of durability as well as a Luxliner inner for a seamless, breathable fit. Plus, they've even thrown in a hidden stash pocket in the tongue for those sweet old school vibes.

While the Half Cab is of course a Steve Caballero pro model, we've been treated to new signature colourways from two of our favourite Vans heads: Una Farrar and Dick Rizzo. For Una's colourway, she's treated us to a timeless White and Green number, featuring an all-white upper with green accents, which is perfect for these summer months. In contrast, Rizzo's colourway isn't quite so seasonally appropriate with a Brown upper and Black sole that may not exactly scream 'summer vibes' but is still a certified banger. To spice things up even more, both of these pro colourways featured custom embroidery on the heel as well as custom artwork on the insole for some extra flavour and a shamrock eyelet for Una.
That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to browse the full range of Vans skate shoes and buy now from CSC. Or, find out more about the latest skate product on the CSC Blog. Safe.
