Coming in hot with an extra special Top 5, we've teamed up with Cardiff-based skater, artist and recent CSC collaborator, Tom Bousie, to take us through some of his favourite skate videos to celebrate the release of the new 'Plant' T-shirt and advert he designed for us. Featuring a super chill daisy smoking a big ol' bifta, the 'Plant' T-shirt perfectly captures those summer vibes with a range of colourways on offer, including Royal Blue, Forest Green and Black, so grab one now to show Tom some love!
Tom's been absolutely killing it in the art game recently, smashing out exhibitions in Cardiff and London while also experimenting with various different mediums, including digital artwork, sculptures, animations and more. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Pete Fowler, Phil Morgan and Nat Jones, Tom represents the next generation of Welsh skate artists so it's long overdue that we roped him into designing a graphic for us.
When he's not busy scribbling away, you're pretty much guaranteed to find him cruising around the Plaza unleashing a mind-blowing barrage of obscure powerslide and no-comply variations - so it wasn't too surprising seeing a Leo Valls part make the list. Tom has treated us to an incredible selection of videos, from old school legends to modern classics, giving us a pretty solid insight into what inspires his own skating with some heartwarming City Surf memories thrown in too. Cheers Tom!
Jordan Thackeray - ‘Don’t Worry Gordo, The Universe Will Get Us There’ (2019)
I can remember the first time I saw Jordan’s part and was blown away. Style for miles and wicked soundtrack. Super unique transition sensibilities and incredible trick selection. By far the most creative and beautiful transition skating I’ve ever seen. Could watch it a million times. The fact he’s from the UK just makes it ten times better. It’s great to see him getting the international recognition he deserves as of late. Peep the CSC tee at 1:43.
Eric Dressen - 'Speed Freaks' (1989)
Those who know me know I’m a slut for skids on my skateboard. I grew up skating hills around my neighbourhood, flatspotting as many wheels as I could, the guys in City Surf must of loved me with the amount of urethane I bought off them. Watching Eric Dressen casually cruising down these huge, empty, beautifully smooth streets, powersliding every two seconds was pure gold to me at 15, still is.
Sammy Baca - 'Baker 4' (2019)
Super wholesome video part with some serious hammers and a stonkin’ ender.
Bone Thugs ’n’ Harmony is bonus points as well.
Leo Valls - 'Minuit' (2011)
Yeah, more slidey slides and no-complies. Hadn’t seen anything like Leo Valls skating before this vid, hella memorable for me.
Vincent Alvarez - 'Pretty Sweet' (2012)
It’s more about the whole video than this part specifically. Although Vincent clotheslining a metal pole is insane. Pretty Sweet was a generational video for a lot of skaters my age. Holds a sentimental place for me as I remember the premiere City Surf held in Flute & Tankard when it released. I’d mostly skated on my own before this and going to this premiere introduced me to lots of skaters my age in Cardiff that I now have cherished memories with over the years of subsequent friendship since. I also won a City Surf tee in the product toss to top it all off.
That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to buy the new CSC 'Plant' T-shirt featuring artwork by Tom Bousie. Or, check out more Top 5's on the CSC Blog. Safe.
