Coming in hot with a bangin' new-old design, Vans have taken a look back through their illustrious history to seek inspiration for their latest offering, the Vans Skate Old Skool 36+, throwing it all the way back to the 70s with a silhouette inspired by one of Vans' earliest shoes while bringing it into 2025 with all the latest tech. So: what is the Vans Skate Old Skool 36+? How's it different to the classic Skate Old Skool? And why's it called the Skate Old Skool 36+? Well, my dear reader, have a look below to find out.

History of the Vans Skate Old Skool

First released all the way back in 1977, the Vans Skate Old Skool - originally dubbed the Style 36 - was only the second dedicated skate shoe Vans ever made and the first to feature their now iconic Sidestripe logo. Likewise, it was also one of the first skate shoes to feature a suede toe panel which was a revolutionary breakthrough in skate shoe construction, providing a huge increase in durability and grip which helped catalyse the rapid progression of skateboarding.

It's safe to say that the Vans Skate Old Skool is a certified classic, beloved by everyone both inside and outside of skateboarding - you couldn't even leave the house without seeing a pair back in the 2010s. Now, after 50 years in the game, Vans have thrown it back to the shoe's OG roots with the new Vans Skate Old Skool 36+, combining all the latest Vans technology with the original silhouette of the Style 36 for a fresh reimagining of this all-time great.

What is the Vans Skate Old Skool 36+?

As you might have already worked out, the name Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ comes from the fact that it's a new-and-improved version of the original Style 36, not because it's made for people over the age of 36. But how is it similar to the Style 36? And what makes it better? Well, on the aesthetic side of things the Vans Old Skool 36+ of course features the iconic Vans Side Stripe, as well as the same padded tongue/collar and shorter toe box as featured on the original Style 36 for a chunkier look and feel than your average Old Skool.

On the technical side of things, obviously they haven't included any of the original 70s technology because that would be a bit silly but the Vans Old Skool 36+ does of course feature the iconic Vans Waffle sole for that classic grip and durability the brand are known for. This has then been improved with the use of their all-new SickStick gum rubber compound for even more durability and grip to further bring this timeless design into the 21st Century.

Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ Black / Navy

In spite of the retro aesthetic, the Vans Old Skool 36+ is packed with all the latest tech Vans has to offer, with the upper being reinforced by their signature DuraCap underlay to provide an additional layer of protection in high-wear areas and maximise durability. Likewise, the vulcanised sole is backed up by their beloved PopCush insole for ultimate comfort and impact protection without sacrificing that premium boardfeel Vans are known for.

Available in a stylish Black / Navy colourway with a suede and canvas upper, the Vans Skate Old Skool 36+ offers up a bangin' reimagining of one of Vans most popular shoes of all-time, with the chunkier look making them the perfect accompaniment to baggy jeans while the technical innovations ensure long-lasting comfort and performance. What are you waiting for?! Scroll down to grab your pair now!

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to browse the full range of Vans skate shoes and buy now from CSC. Or, find out more about the latest skate product on the CSC Blog. Safe.
