Llanrumney Skate Park! (Plus More Exciting News) | Cardiff Skatepark Plans
Dan BunnFeast your eyes on Cardiff's brand-spanking-new, state-of-the-art facility as the Llanrumney skate park opens up to the public on Friday 6th June - and if that's not enough for you, we've also got some exciting news about a new Pentwyn skate park!
Big news for the South Wales scene this month as the long-awaited 'destination' skate park in Llanrumney has officially opened to the public! A whopping three years after the plans were first announced in Cardiff Council's Skateboard Amenities Strategy and all the meetings and surveys along the way, work has finally been completed on the park and it's safe to say it was worth the wait.
Located next to the Eastern Leisure Centre, the new Llanrumney skate park was lovingly built by the legends from Betong (known for their work on revamping the iconic Stockwell skate park), including help from some familiar local faces, with the design provided by Canadian landscape architects, Van Der Zalm + Associates, based off of all the surveys and meetings. We were super hyped when we saw the design and luckily Betong have stayed true to the original plans with only some very slight tweaks being made, like getting rid of a patch of dead space between the mini ramp and the hip.

Looking like it's straight out of the US with its bangin' plaze-style design, the new Llanrumney skate park is packed with a wide variety of obstacles - including ledges, rails, hubbas, manual pads, stairs, banks and more - alongside plenty of transition around the edges for a nice flowy feel. There are so many possibilities hidden away here and we can't wait to see what you guys unlock so make sure you tag us in your clips on Instagram!
There's no doubt that the Llanrumney skate park has gone straight to the top of the list of best skate parks in Wales and it's definitely gonna be the ultimate training facility for the summer so shoutout to Cardiff Council, Betong and Van Der Zalm for delivering the goods as well as all you lovely lot for showing up to the meetings and filling out the surveys to help make this a reality!

As if that's not exciting enough, Cardiff Council are already plowing on with their Skateboard Strategy with construction on yet another park starting this week. This time it's the Parc Coed y Nant skate park in Pentwyn - home to the one and only Wolf - that's getting a facelift courtesy of Wheelscape, who you may know from their work on parks like Monmouth and the Victoria Park and Bradley Norton parks in Bristol. Once again, the existing, out-dated modular park is getting brought back to life with a full concrete construction featuring a mixture of ledges, rails, manny pads and some fun-looking transition.
