Cardiff Skatepark Plans - Cardiff Skateboard Strategy Given Go-Ahead!

It's official! Cardiff Council have approved their Cardiff Skateboard Strategy meaning we could be seeing a load of new skateparks, spots and more coming to Cardiff over the next 10 years!

We've got some super exciting news for you this week as Cardiff Council have officially approved their Skateboard Strategy, meaning we could see a load of new skateparks and more being built in Cardiff over the next few years. This has been in the works for years and we couldn't be more hyped that it's finally been approved by the council!

To come up with the strategy, Cardiff Council have been working alongside skatepark consultants, Van Der Zalm and Newline Skateparks, who helped carry out a load of research to assess Cardiff's needs and how best to serve them, and the proposed strategy has now been put forward to the cabinet and officially approved.

By 2032, the plans could see six new skateparks built to serve the north, east, west and centre of Cardiff as well as new spots and dots around the city, like we've had at the new Maltings Park. They've even mentioned the potential for an Olympic-standard park and rain-sheltered facilities which is particularly exciting given Cardiff's reputation... #BritainsWettestCity.

As if that's not enough, the strategy also discusses how future skateable spaces could be introduced in the city, in which commercial developers could be encouraged to incorporate skateable spaces into the public realm, similar to initiatives in cities like Malmo, Melbourne and Hull. Obviously skateparks are fun but we've always wanted to push for a change in attitude towards street skating and hopefully this is a step in the right direction!

You can have a read of the Council's Skateboard Amenity Strategy Report and even watch a webcast of the meeting over on the Council's website for a full overview of the plans. Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled for more information about what's coming next, with more news on the upcoming Llanrumney skatepark hopefully coming soon!

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to browse the latest skateboard decks, clothing, shoes and more, and buy now from CSC. Or, find out more news about the Cardiff skatepark plans on the CSC BlogSafe.
