Last Resort have long been known for pushing the boundaries of what a skate shoe can be, often dipping their toes (if you'll pardon the pun) into the world of more formal footwear, with several shoes bridging that gap between skate shoes and dress shoes. However, their latest offering, the GM001, takes things further from what you'd typically think of as a skate shoe than ever before (if it even is a skate shoe...) with a unique design that looks more like a pair of Dr Martens than any of its Last Resort siblings.

First things first: we've got to start off by talking about the name. As if it wasn't already clear just how much the Last Resort GM001 differs from the rest of their range, the name itself also stands apart from its predecessors. While Last Resort's previous models have been named based on their construction, with the VM referring to Vulcanised Models and CM referring to Cupsole Models, the GM001 adds a new strata to the LRAB ecosystem with the introduction of the General Model, further highlighting its intended everyday functionality as opposed to skating performance.

Aside from the name, the sole is where the GM001 differs most from the rest of Last Resort's shoes, and your average skate shoe in general. While it does feature a cupsole construction, it's unlike anything a skate shoe brand has made before with its unique lug sole that looks more like a work boot or hiking shoe than a skate shoe. The thick rubber and deep grooves (or lugs) offer up far more grip, stability and durability than the thinner, flatter outsoles you usually see in skate shoes (while also giving you some extra verticality if you're lacking in that department) - but this of course comes at the cost of boardfeel and is probably the main indication that these aren't meant to be skated (although you're welcome to prove us wrong).

Likewise, the upper features a similarly unique construction which clearly takes inspiration from dress shoes like Oxfords and Moccasins. Keeping things classic with a timeless leather construction, the upper of the GM001 features two layers of leather which have been stitched together with a stylish rolled seam, reminiscent of a loafer or moccasin, to add an extra layer of sophistication. What's more, the GM001 also features a premium pig skin lining for a luxurious feel as well as Last Resort's fan favourite Cloudy Cush insole for long-lasting comfort.

It's safe to say that the Last Resort GM001 marks a huge step, if not leap, in a new direction for the brand: building on their usual dress shoe aesthetics and taking it to a new extreme which goes beyond the realm of skate shoes. Whether you wear it as an after-skate chiller or to add a touch of class to your date nights, the GM001 is wihtout a doubt a well-rounded tool to have in your shoe arsenal and we're pretty hyped to see what other General Models Last Resort might have up their sleeve for us in future. Let us know what you think in the comments!

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to browse more Last Resort skate shoes and buy now from CSC. Or, find out more about the latest skate product on the CSC Blog. Safe.
