Cardiff Skatepark Plans - Maltings Skatepark Coming Soon!

It's been a while since there was any new information about the new skateparks getting built in Cardiff but we've finally got some good news: a new skatepark in Maltings Park will be opening soon!

As some of you may already know, Cardiff Council have been hard at work regenerating Maltings Park on East Tyndall Street in Splott, giving the existing park a serious facelift with the addition of a Multi-Use Games Area, a new kids park and generally just making the place a bit nicer. But most importantly, the park will also be home to a brand spanking new skatepark - Cardiff's first in over 12 years!

We got the chance to scope the place out yesterday and check on the progress of the build and we've gotta say, it's looking pretty good! It's not a massive, Olympic-standard training facility (hopefully that will be coming later) so don't get your hopes up too much, but it has ended up being bigger than the initial plans which is a nice bonus.

The main attraction.

The new Cardiff skate park will feature several ledges, two curved 'taco shell' ramps, a quarterpipe, a flatbank and a couple of other quirky little features for everyone to get creative on. It should be really fun for people of all abilities with a nice flowy layout for people to pump round as well as some more traditional obstacles for honing your tekkers. It's even got some planters incorporated into the design for the ✨vibes✨.

Some of the more esoteric features like a slanted ledge, taco ramp and a slab of rock. Lots of cool possibilities.

If everything goes to plan the new Maltings park should be opening around May/June, so just in time for some lovely summer sessions. Fingers crossed, this should be the first of many skateparks and spots being built in Cardiff in the coming years. For those wondering about the Llanrumney skatepark, things are still in motion however there's been some delays due to various complicaitons with planning applications and stuff like that so with a bit of luck the build should start some time soon. But it is still meant to be happening which is the main thing. For now, keep your eyes on the Blog for more updates on new skateparks and we'll see you down the park when it's open!

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to browse the latest skateboard decks, clothing, shoes and more, and buy now from CSC. Or, find out more news about the Cardiff skatepark plans on the CSC BlogSafe.
