Ask A Skate Shop - Focus

In the run-up to Skate Shop Day, we thought we'd reach out to some our favourite shops across the UK to ask them some not-so-serious questions about the highs and lows of running a skate shop.
Focus Skate Shop Edinburgh - CSC, Cardiff Skateboard Club - UK Skate Store

Next up, we venture way up north to our Celtic brethren from Edinburgh's Focus. Sibs and Graham have been supplying the people of Edinburgh with the finest skate goodies since 2001 and they treated us to some seriously cultured answers, from Scottish scene videos and battered Mars bars to MF DOOM and Supra Skytops. Cheers fellas!

  • One product you thought you’d never get rid of?
    • Metallic gold Supra Skytops after the bubble burst.
  • Best team rider?
    • Mark Burrows. Session motivator, best plasterer in the land and an absolute diamond of a guy.
  • Biggest ‘I will never financially recover from this’ moment?
    • The time a building collapsed just up the street from our first Edinburgh shop and all the surrounding streets were shut for weeks. Almost ended us.
    • Most played video in the shop?
      • H’Min Bam. The greatest scene video of all time.
    • Most common question you get asked?
      • Where’s the best place to get Deep Fried Mars Bars.
    • Best thing about working in a shop?
      • The general public.
    • Worst thing about working in a shop?
      • The general public.
    • Most famous shop visitor? Bonus: what did they get and did they ask for discount?
      • Not our most famous, but 100% the best shop visitor was MF DOOM. Bought some tees and shoes, no discounts asked for and he put all the staff on the guest list for his show that night in Glasgow.

    • The shop wouldn’t still be here if it wasn’t for...
      • All our splendid loyal customers. That and Dunks.
    • Best memory from a shop trip or session?
      • Minibus trips to Bones at Bolton were always a laugh. Although driving the bus whilst 18 people did their best Cheech & Chong impressions was kinda tough.
    • If you could bring back one brand from the grave what would it be?
      • Rasa Libre.

That's enough chit-chat though. Head to the shop to buy the latest skateboard decks, clothing, shoes and more from CSC. Or, check out the rest of our Ask A Skate Shop series on the CSC Blog. Safe.
