HAPPY NEW YEEEAR CAAAAAARDIFFFFfffff….
Been a long time without updates, so here’s a summary of skateboarding in Cardiff from December 16 2009 -January 4th 2010…
Snow, ice, CSC Xmas Party, drink, rain, drink, ice, snow, drink, eat, Xmas Day, eat, drink, ice, New Year’s Eve…two thousand and ten!
2010 is going to be a big year for Cardiff skateboarders, but before we get into that let’s do a review of 2009.
CSC skater of the year
Lots of competition for this honour…the only criteria being that you have to have attended a CSC event or been somehow affiliated with CSC through the year…which unfortunately puts Busenitz and Chris Cole out. Sorry guys.
Anyway, runners up are…
Dylan Hughes – for putting in an epic WATW battle against Gibbsy, putting out a pro video part and battling through injury.
Gibbsy - another Manny Mania first-round victory, best WATW game against Dylan, killing it in the powerslide contest on Go Skate Day, ridiculous tech everywhere he goes and a controversial year-end retirement…will he be back? Only he knows…
Chris Jones – January 2009 Sidewalk cover, props to Pirate Man and Josh Perrett in his ‘Favourites’, loadsa crazy footy and a hearty approach to partying put Chris on the ‘nearly’ list.
And the winner is…
WATW winner, awesome Plank Famine footage, loads of other footage, successor to Andrew ‘Lego McKernan in the hairstyle stakes and owner of the city’s tightest dayglo pink t-shirts. He’s been putting it down for the Llanishen crew at every CSC event this year…congrats
Ryan Thomas – CSC Skater of the Year
Most underground
Although Dykey made a good effort at dragging our reluctant super-hero into the limelight, he resisted and remains one of the UK’s best hidden skateboarding secrets. All raise your glasses to the one and only…
CSC trick of the year
Gibbsy’s flip powerslide 270 out in the wet was a strong contender, as was Taylor’s nosegrind at Stoke…but the award has to go to the big man himself…
Fastest man in CSC
Awarded annually to whoever wins the race down Queen Street…this year it goes to Nick Jones! He pounded the pavement faster than all comers, only narrowly winning when Chris Jones hit the deck at the last minute!
Fastest man in CSC – Nick Jones
Genius of the year
Not quite sure who to award this to…originally it was going to be Nick the Bastard (NTB) for building the Walrus, then it was going to be Boneless Kid for single handedly reviving the spirit of the 80s…but in the end, there could only be one winner, and it goes to whoever had the brilliant idea of putting Scooch on a t-shirt
Event of the year
Go Skateboarding Day was awesome, and Dykey’s unforeseen organisational and planning abilities made the CSC/Crayon day trip to Stoke one of the best things ever…but due to Red Bull, DJs, the after party and CSC t-shirts all round, it has to go to the War at the Welsh final!
